PortableApps

Just when you were sure there was nothing more you could do with the five flash drives in your pocket or purse, along comes PortableApps, a free (yep, free) download that you can use to carry a full suite of computer programs that you can run from your flash drive, complete with personalization settings.

It's all open source, and will run on any Windows computer, and you can use it with any portable media - iPod, USB flash drive, portable hard drive, etc.

The suite includes:
(All versions of the PortableApps.com Suite include the integrated PortableApps.com Menu (and the PortableApps.com Backup utility along with a set of custom icons, an autoplay configuration, folders and a quick start shortcut.)

The geektails:

    * Suite Standard: 124MB (download), ~355MB (installed)

System Requirements: Windows 95*/98*/Me*/2000/XP/Vista and Wine under Linux/UNIX/BSD/Mac OS X
The base apps and some bundled apps will work under Windows 95/98/Me

Noted: Fix for iPhone apps refusing to work:
Evidently the computer gets hung in the middle of a download or synch, and needs a "complete" signal. The simple fix is to install any new app and make sure it completes. The rest should now behave fine. If this doesn't work, your recourse is to delete and reload the apps that aren't working properly. Yeah, it's a pain.
