Stumbling Across the Internet
Psst. Hey, you. Want to waste some serious time? Check out Stumble Upon (www.stumbleupon.com), an online application that allows you to " Channel surf the internet with the StumbleUpon toolbar to find great websites, videos, photos and more based on your interests. StumbleUpon learns what you like and makes better recommendations."
Stumble Upon must be downloaded (it is a toolbar). Once installed, you can click the "Stumble" button on the toolbar any time to reach a website that other users have tagged as fitting one of your selected preferences.
Preferences, or interests, range from History to Drawing, Internet, Bizarre/Oddities, Archaeology, Movies... well, it's a big list.
Users can rate a website, both for themselves (you tell Stumble Upon that you like a particular site, and there will be more like it offered up), and for others. You can add websites you have discovered, blogged, or even websites that you dislike!
Stumblers automatically create a blog of their stumbling activity, which indicates sites they have viewed and rated thumbs up.
You can link up with friends, and send messages to other stumblers. There are also groups you can join, such as "Awesome pictures, Bizarre Hunter, and Fans of Firefox.
