Google is A++
You readers know there are a few internet services I feel can do no wrong.
Well, actually a couple of people I know feel that one of them, Google, is the Evil Empire, bent on putting us all in information Hell, in which dark and scary place they know everything about everything and use it to pound us into submission. But I digress.
I do feel that both Google and Amazon are two "products" or perhaps better put (though I loathe the term) "BRANDS" that keep improving, offering new, better, more, expanded, rethought, and always in the same general track. That is to say, they don't start trying to be or offer something which is not their brand's focus.
So, with Amazon, it's essentially retail. If you can buy it at a retail store, you can, for the most part, buy it at Amazon, one way or another.
With Google, it's information. And they truly have taken this mission to heart.
The latest little tweak that may have gone un-noticed is a nifty little widget added to the sidebar of an email from a contact. So, I get an email, and it might have an attached image. Now, in the sidebar, I will see the hyperlinked name of my contact (I can send them a new message in various forms), the ability to share the included info with my Circles on google+, the ability to edit their contact info, call them or send an SMS (text message), start a chat or hangout (with video if you both have that capability), and the most recent images or attachments in thumbnail form.
And of course you have an option to begin a chat with the person who's mailed you (or a video chat), along with their status.
So there you go - a simple contact from a friend, and Google has taken into consideration all the ways in which you might want to make further contact, or adjust your contact settings, for that person.
Oh, and by the way, I can share this blog post with all my circles on Google+, which I will be doing...
